“I believe the children are our future, teach them well and let them lead the way.”
Whitney Houston (The Greatest Love of All)
In this ever-changing world, there are many things we must nurture in order to develop innovations and discoveries that will lead to the best future we can create. In order to attain such goals, one of the paths we must tread is to foster the children.
The 21st century is indeed a lot different than past and earlier generations. The youth, even toddlers, is engrossed in technological innovations and some can easily navigate through these devices but at some point, this habit may cause them to experience negative results either physically, psychologically and or emotionally.
Technology plays a crucial role in our everyday lives whether it be children or adults. It is prevalent in terms of entertainment, science, education, economy and other various fields. Children's addiction towards electronics is gradually increasing which may be of great concern to their parents or guardians.
Before we talk about how to prevent the addiction of children towards gadgets or the internet, first, we should be aware of what could be the cause and what's keeping them hooked to it. Then we should learn about how exactly overuse and overexposure to electronics affect youngsters.
According to AsterMedCity, "Worldwide researchers have proven that technology addiction can affect and delay the development of children by limiting their creative, imaginative and physical challenges to achieve optimal motor and sensory development. It also makes them extremely restless, resulting in behavioral issues and problems at school."
There are a variety of possible effects of gadget addiction amongst children.
For their mental health, effects include:
Addiction
Technology induced autism
Neurological problems
Sleep deprivation
Social Isolation
Effects on physical health
Technology can cause multiple health problems in children including

Continuous headache.
several back and neck issues including spondylitis and back pain.
postural problems like hunching.
injuries like the ‘texting thumb’.
Overweight.
Physical and mental development issues
Their bones and muscles become weak due to reduced physical activity.
Since children receive a whole new source of entertainment from gadgets, it can immediately acquire their interest and it can keep them captivated for hours which in turn will lead to overuse. Overuse of gadgets can cause children to feel lonely and their loneliness will be otherwise eased by technology itself that will make them think it is reliable resulting in isolation.
Technology can also lead to children slipping into a range of internet threats and traps. They may interact with strangers on social media, who may harm them. Children may also be vulnerable to social bullying, which would have a negative impact on their mental health.

Digital detox - If you feel that your child is too enamored by technology, it’s advisable to do a digital detox. Take off everything that’s got to do with technology – phones, tablets, play stations, laptops for a few days.
There might be strong resistances and tantrums initially, but don’t lose heart. Make him or her understand the reason why you are doing so. After everything is settled, train your child to use technology judiciously, under supervision.
We know that when kids get dissatisfied, lonely, rejected, and uninspired, they turn to addictive behavior. Assisting them to engage in meaningful real-life experiences and relationships, as well as providing wholehearted support, is the solution.
